| Bhim urges CEC to allow under trial candidate to cast his vote | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 12- Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman of JKNPP in an urgent letter addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner of India has urged him to allow Mohammed Iqbal Jan, a candidate from Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency, who is presently lodged in Tihar Jail, Delhi, to exercise his franchise so that a message goes to the Kashmiri youth to defy the boycott call by some frustrated and angry politicians in the Valley. In his letter to the CEC he said that "Mohammed Iqbal Jan is contesting Parliamentary election from Baramulla Constituency in Kashmir which goes to polls on May 13. He is voter in Bandipora and presently detained as under trial in Tihar Jail, Delhi and has filed his nomination papers as JNKPP candidate from Baramulla constituency. Bhim Singh while the Government of India has been appealing the Kashmiris to exercise their franchise but regrettably is denying the voting rights to Jan who represents the aspiration and urges of the youth of Kashmir. ‘Denying him his right of franchise shall be very unfortunate’, Bhim said in his letter.
Bhim has requested the Chief Election Commissioner of India to exercise his discretion directing the Union Home Ministry to take Iqbal Jan to Bandipora to cast his vote as it shall be a clear message for the youth of Kashmir and a great honour of the fundamental rights of the people of Kashmir.
