| MCM celebrates Wildlife Week with creativity, conservation spirit | | |

Chandigarh, Oct 14: The Department of Zoology and Eco-Club ‘Parivesh’ of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, under the aegis of MCM Vigyan Manch, organised a two-day Wildlife Week Celebration, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology and Renewable Energy, Chandigarh Administration.
A wide array of competitions was held, drawing enthusiastic participation from students across various streams. The Short Video Making Competition on the theme ‘Wildlife Conservation: Our Responsibility’ featured original and impactful videos that effectively conveyed messages of wildlife protection.
The Photography Contest titled ‘Micro Meets Macro: Wildlife Through All Lenses’ encouraged participants to capture geotagged images of campus wildlife, unveiling the often-overlooked beauty of biodiversity. In the Poster Making Competition on the theme ‘Keep the Wild Alive’, students presented thought-provoking artworks advocating conservation.
The Animal Pebble Painting Contest allowed participants to depict their love for wildlife on natural canvases, while the Clay Modelling Event showcased eco-friendly sculptures inspired by flora and fauna.
The Quiz Competition, based on ‘Living with the Wild: Coexistence, Conservation and Curiosity’, tested participants’ knowledge of the natural world, and the PowerPoint Presentation Competition on ‘Endangered Species:
A Call for Action’ highlighted urgent conservation needs through compelling visual storytelling. The Extempore Speech Competition offered students a platform to articulate their views on diverse wildlife topics, while the Face Painting Competition, themed ‘Endangered Beauty’, transformed faces into vibrant representations of threatened species.
Hand Shadow Puppet Show titled ‘Night in the Wild: Shadows Come Alive’ artistically portrayed wildlife through expressive hand shadows that captivated the audience. Prizes were awarded to the top three entries in each category, and participation certificates were given to all students. Officiating Principal Mrs. Neena Sharma said that Wildlife Week Celebrations 2025 proved to be an enriching blend of science, creativity, and environmental advocacy, reaffirming the college’s commitment to sustainability and ecological education.
She emphasised the importance of such initiatives in nurturing environmental awareness, scientific curiosity, and social responsibility among students. |
