early times report

Jammu, Oct 14: The Atelier Club (Photography Club) of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) successfully organized a three-day Photography Workshop conducted by Mr. Arjun Singh, an alumnus of the School of Architecture, SMVDU, and now an established professional in the field of photography and visual arts. Mr. Singh graciously returned to his alma mater to share his professional expertise, creative insights, and practical knowledge with the students.
Over the span of three days, participants gained hands-on exposure to various aspects of photography, including fundamentals of camera handling, composition, studio lighting, model shoots, and portrait techniques.
The workshop skillfully blended theoretical discussions with live demonstrations, enabling students to experience real-world practices directly from an industry expert — effectively bridging the gap between academic learning and professional application.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across different schools of the University, fostering creativity, collaboration, and artistic expression. Sahil Singh from the School of Computer Science played a key role in coordinating and organizing the workshop on behalf of the Atelier Club.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Pragati Kumar, graced the occasion and lauded the efforts of the alumnus and the organizing team.
He appreciated the initiatives of the Office of Alumni and International Affairs for strengthening alumni–student engagement and emphasized the importance of such interactions in holistic learning. Prof. Kumar also expressed his intent to organize more such alumni-led events in the future, encouraging greater participation of SMVDU alumni in mentoring and skill-development activities for students. The Dean, International and Alumni Affairs, Prof. (Dr.) Yugal Khajuria, and his office extended their continuous guidance and support in facilitating the event. Dr. Rakesh Kumar, President BCA was also present during the sessions.
The Atelier Club expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Arjun Singh for his valuable time and mentorship, which provided students with both inspiration and practical learning in the art and science of photograph
