Vocal For Local | | | The calls for buying Swadeshi and products made by Self-help Groups and local artisans are emanating from all quarters. Recently Union Home Minister Amit Shah called on the people to buy swadeshi (indigenous) products to help grow the country’s market and consumption. “We have to make Bharat Atamnirbhar and for that we have to focus on swadeshi,” he said. J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha while inaugurating the J&K Police’s Diwali Mela urged the people to buy Swadeshi and products made by Self-help Groups and local artisans. “Let us boost our local economy, empower local entrepreneurs, increase employment and strengthen the overall economic position of UT of Jammu Kashmir,” he said. LG Sinha called on the people to remain ‘vocal for local’ during the ongoing Diwali shopping and aim should be to boost self-reliance and national pride. The call to be “vocal for local” during Diwali shopping is more than a seasonal sentiment—it is a reminder of our collective responsibility. Every purchase of a locally made diya, shawl, or handicraft product contributes directly to the nation’s self-reliance and reflects pride in our cultural identity. When consumers choose local goods over imported alternatives, they are not only helping sustain livelihoods but also fueling a cycle of economic resilience. Moreover, supporting self-help groups—many of which are led by women—has a multiplier effect on social and economic progress. These groups exemplify community-driven entrepreneurship, transforming modest resources into meaningful income and empowerment. Encouraging people to buy their products means investing in women-led growth and inclusive development. In the larger picture, promoting Swadeshi is not about isolation from the global economy but about strengthening India’s internal capacity to compete globally. A self-reliant India is one that produces, innovates, and exports with confidence. The pandemic underscored the need to reduce external dependence and build strong local supply chains—a lesson that continues to guide policy and public sentiment alike. As the lights of Diwali spread hope and renewal, embracing Swadeshi is an act of faith in India’s own strength. By being vocal for local, every citizen can become a stakeholder in national prosperity. It is time we turn our festive spirit into a movement for economic empowerment, cultural pride, and self-reliance—one local product at a time. |
