Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 14: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, celebrated World Standards Day 2025 by organizing "Manak Mahotsav" at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Srinagar. More than 450 students enthusiastically participated in the event. The celebration was graced by Sh. Saurabh Bhagat, IAS, Commissioner/Secretary, Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, J&K, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his address, Sh. Bhagat emphasized the importance of strict quality control, certification, and consumer safety in ensuring industrial growth and public trust. "Standards are the foundation of innovation, safety, and sustainability. For Jammu and Kashmir, adopting and implementing national and international standards is crucial for improving competitiveness and driving sustainable economic development," he said. He further highlighted the need to monitor and verify the quality of locally manufactured products, particularly household items, to ensure consumer safety. He also stressed on the standardization of region-specific products such as wood-based items and traditional heating devices, noting that it would not only improve safety but also enable these products to gain wider recognition in national and international markets. The theme for World Standards Day 2025, "A Shared Vision for a Better World: Spotlight on SDG 17 - Partnerships for the Goals," underscored the significance of standardization in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event brought together representatives from industry, academia, government departments, and students to deliberate on the growing importance of quality assurance in fostering a resilient and inclusive economy.
