Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 16: The NSS unit of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, organized a 'Vocal for Local' event to promote local craftsmanship. The highlight of the event was handmade diyas crafted by Mohinder, a talented Class 8 student from Government High School, Sirah (Kakryal). Mohinder, known for his skill in creating decorative items, showcased a range of beautifully handcrafted diyas at a special stall set up within the university campus. The NSS volunteers actively supported the initiative by facilitating the stall and spreading awareness among the university community. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and students, who purchased all the displayed items and lauded Mohinder's craftsmanship. Dr. Sunanda Gupta, Head of the School of Computer Science and Engineering, and Dr. Rajiv Kumar, NSS Programme Coordinator, coordinated the said event. The initiative aligned with the government's 'Vocal for Local' campaign, aiming to empower local talent and promote self-reliance. Mohinder expressed happiness over the overwhelming response and said it inspired him to continue honing his skill. The event also aimed at instilling the spirit of entrepreneurship and self-confidence among young students.
