Early Times Report REASI, Oct 16: The Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), North-West Himalayan Region, Jammu conducted a one-day Tier-III Training Programme on "Groundwater Management and Local Issues" at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi which was attended by large number of farmers of the area. The programme was organised with the objective of enhancing awareness and capacity-building among stakeholders on sustainable groundwater utilisation. The event was held under the guidance of K. S. Rawat, Head of Office, CGWB, Jammu, who formally welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr. Banarsi Lal, Head & Chief Scientist, KVK Reasi, along with other dignitaries and participants. In his inaugural address, Dr. Banarsi Lal highlighted the critical role of groundwater in drinking water supply, agriculture, and industry and underscored the need for effective conservation strategies to ensure long-term sustainability. He guided farmers on natural farming especially in the rainfed areas of the district. Adarsh Gupta, DDM, NABARD was the Guest of Honour who spoke on banking literacy. He appreciated the efforts of The Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) for organising such a useful programme at KVK Reasi. Sukhdev Singh, Sarpanch of the area and Guest of Honour highlighted the problems of the area and applauded the officials of CGWB for guiding the farmers on water management practices. During the technical sessions, K. S. Rawat provided an overview of the mandate and activities of CGWB, Jammu, followed by a detailed presentation on groundwater quality and associated challenges in Reasi district. Rakesh Rana, Senior Scientist, elaborated on the methodologies and techniques employed for groundwater exploration by CGWB. Mohd. Abid Khan, Hydrogeologist, delivered a lecture on springshed management, while Sh. Kush Kumar, Hydrogeologist, presented insights into the regional geology and artificial recharge techniques. The programme also featured a panel discussion and an interactive feedback session with the participants, followed by the distribution of certificates. Dr. Banarsi Lal coordinated the event and played a pivotal role in its successful organisation. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Rakesh Rana, Senior Scientist, CGWB, bringing to close an informative and engaging knowledge-sharing platform focused on groundwater conservation. |
