IIM Jammu hosts MCFC Session on strengthening Defence Capabilities through Academia-Industry Collaboration

JAMMU, Oct 16: The Indian Institute of Management Jammu, under the visionary leadership of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, hosted session of the ongoing Military Civil Fusion Capsule (MCFC) on 15th Oct 2025 at Patanjali Classroom. The session, centered on "Enhancing Defence Capability through Integration with Academia and the Private Sector," brought together top military leaders, senior civil administrators, and distinguished academic experts to explore innovative pathways for strengthening India's defence preparedness.
The Military Civil Fusion Capsule (MCFC) commenced with its inaugural session at the Tiger Division, Jammu. The capsule, scheduled from 15th to 29th October 2025, underscores the pivotal role of synergy among the Armed Forces, Civil Administration, Academia, and Security Agencies in ensuring regional stability and progress. It aims to foster deeper institutional collaboration beyond strategic levels to grassroots governance, a crucial element in addressing multidimensional challenges such as conventional security threats, as well as emerging issues in the cyber and social domains.
Present on the occasion were Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu; Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Professor of Practice, IIM Jammu and Prof. Shyam Narayan Lal, Chairperson, Media and Publications and Anandam, IIM Jammu; and Prof. Brigadier (Retd.) Neeraj Soni, Co-Chairperson, Anandam, IIM Jammu. Also in attendance were Dr. Karan Nathwani, Associate Professor, IIT Jammu, and Dr. Samaresh Bera, Assistant Professor, IIT Jammu.
In his address, Prof. Nitin Upadhyay, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu, highlighted the pivotal role of academia in strengthening national security and capacity building. He expressed pride in witnessing academia's collective efforts toward national development, noting IIM Jammu's growth from 47 students to standing alongside three Institutes of National Importance in the region. He emphasized the need for collaboration among thought leaders to develop preventive mechanisms, draw insights from multiple agencies, and adopt the Army's prescriptive approach for effective challenge management. He reaffirmed academia's commitment to working closely with the defence ecosystem in advancing the vision of Viksit Bharat.
The session commenced with strategic deliberations led by senior army officials from the Tiger Division, Jammu. Discussions focused on harnessing academic insights and private sector expertise to maximize strategic deliverables, operational effectiveness, and drive technological innovation within the Armed Forces. Speakers highlighted Jammu's seven decades of exemplary cooperation between military and civil institutions, fostering confidence, coordination, and resilience among the people. Citing Operations SINDOOR, RAHAT, and SANJY, they emphasized how joint efforts have saved lives and restored infrastructure, reaffirming that fusion and collective action are the keys to regional progress.
