Amritsar Sardar Bishan Singh Samundri Memorial Lectureship Award 2025

AMRITSAR, Oct 18: The Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, successfully organized Sardar Bishan Singh Samundri Memorial Lectureship Award on October 15, 2025, under the dynamic leadership of the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh. The prestigious award, instituted by Sardar Jaswant Singh Rai Memorial Trust, Jalandhar, is conferred annually upon eminent scientists for their outstanding contributions to the fields of Agriculture and Allied Sciences. This year, the distinguished honor was bestowed upon Prof. (Dr.) Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, in recognition of his remarkable achievements and pioneering contributions to agricultural and biological sciences. Prof. Gosal, a renowned academician and research leader, has played a pivotal role in advancing agricultural biotechnology, crop improvement, and sustainable farming practices in India. In the award lecture, he emphasized the need to enhance productivity in economically important crops through the integration of cutting-edge technologies and strategic research interventions. Prof. Gosal also introduced the concept of "Agribusiness" as a means to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance among young scientists and agricultural professionals. He shared valuable insights into the strategic research initiatives undertaken at Punjab Agricultural University, focusing on developing climate-resilient crop varieties, advancing biotechnology applications, and strengthening India's position at the global scientific frontier. Prof. Rajinder Kaur formally welcomed the dignitaries and participants and mentioned achievements of the department in teaching and research. The gathering was graced by notable dignitaries including Prof. Palwinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs, also, he presented the plaque; Prof. H. S. Saini, Dean Students' Welfare; Prof. Vasudha Sambyal, Dean Life Sciences and Nodal Officer for the seminar; Prof. Satwinderjeet Kaur and Dr. Nitika Kapoor as coordinators. Prof. Jatinder Kaur proposed a Vote of Thanks. The event was attended by Prof. M.S. Bhatti, Prof. Jatinder Kaur, Dr. Mayank Dhar Dwivedi, Prof. G. S. Virk (Retd.), Prof. Avinash Kaur Nagpal (Retd.), Dr. Kritka Pandit, Dr. Kiran Dhami, Dr. Mehak Taneja, faculty and heads of other departments, research scholars, and students from various departments.
