Early Times Report POONCH, Oct 18: In a major action against drug trafficking and habitual offenders, District Police Poonch has successfully detained a notorious drug peddler under the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act. The accused, Sajjad Hussain Shah alias Sajjada, son of Sarfraz Hussain Shah, resident of Potha, Tehsil Surankote, District Poonch, has been detained under the PIT NDPS Act on the orders of the Worthy Divisional Commissioner Jammu, vide Order No. 621/2025 dated 17.10.2025. Following the issuance of the detention order, Poonch Police took the accused into custody and lodged him in District Jail Udhampur for preventive detention. It is pertinent to mention that the said individual is a notorious and habitual drug peddler, actively involved in multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act across Jammu Province. He has previously been named in the following FIRs: FIR No. 71/2020 U/S 8/20/29 NDPS Act - Police Station Surankote FIR No. 62/2023 U/S 8/20/21 NDPS Act - Police Station Surankote FIR No. 11/2025 U/S 8/20/21 NDPS Act - Police Station Surankote Besides, several other FIRs stand registered against him in different police stations across Jammu Province. The accused had also been booked earlier under preventive provisions for his continuous involvement in the illicit trade of narcotics. His detention under the PIT NDPS Act reflects the strong commitment of District Police Poonch towards curbing the drug menace and ensuring the safety and well-being of society. The local populace has widely appreciated this firm action taken by the Police against a habitual offender, reinforcing public faith in the ongoing anti-narcotics efforts of Poonch Police. |
