| Community service sentences under new criminal laws enforced in Katra | | | Early Times Report REASI, Oct 18: Continuing its commitment to ensuring swift justice and promoting reformative punishment under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), District Police Reasi has effectively implemented community service sentences in two recent cases adjudicated by the Hon'ble Court of Sub-Judge/JMIC Katra. On 16.10.2025, one person namely Rajesh Gupta S/o Vishwanath R/O A/P Jij Chowk, Katra, Reasi was apprehended under Section 355 BNS and produced before the Hon'ble Court. The Court sentenced him to community service in the form of cleaning work at Pushpanjali Hospital, Banganga for five days. During this period, the accused actively participated in sweeping, waste collection and general sanitation activities under the supervision of the Medical Officer of the hospital. In a similar case, today a complaint under Section 355 BNS was produced before the Hon'ble Court of Sub-Judge Katra against Kaka Singh S/O Daulat Singh R/O Ward No. 9, Sool, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi. The Hon'ble Court has sentenced him to community service in the form of cleaning and maintenance work at Panthal Park under the supervision of I/C Police Post Kakryal for a period of five days - from 19.10.2025 to 23.10.2025 between 10:00 AM and 01:00 PM. These community service sentences mark a significant shift toward reformative justice envisioned under the New Criminal Laws, focusing on social responsibility and behavioural correction through constructive engagement. District Police Reasi remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice serves both as a deterrent and as a means of positive social reform. |
