Words that speak columns
10/18/2025 10:16:57 PM
Ashok Raina

Letters into words, words into sentences, and sentences into columns everyone naturally yearns to write a book, and with our refined vocabulary, we can even build a tower on a shovel of sheer determination. But if we listen to, interpret, or believe the language of politicians during speeches, you can be sure that we often fall prey to dreams, perhaps even those we once saw in deep sleep.
To embellish a column, a writer typically uses well-chosen words, maintaining a high degree of decorum. However, the blatant spectacle that is unfolding these days on TV channels during discussions involving individuals from the relevant political group is affecting not only the writer’s heart but also the general public. The issues raised during discussions, the questions posed to all political parties, and the responses received from all sides are often so numerous that it becomes increasingly difficult to address any issue related to the subject matter. Despite all this, people ultimately consider the discussions a futile exercise and a waste of time.
You know that If we once again play the videos of promises made by the leaders to the people during their speeches, then this time the public will be able to decide for themselves how many commitments of leaders and people’s dreams have been fulfilled? And how do we ultimately deal with this situation that has arisen? It seems baffling to everyone.
Generally, till date, like me, you too must have often heard the speeches of many leaders and perhaps we can definitely say as a witness that the leader of any party makes a promise to the people of one district in his speech and the same leader is seen making a different promise to the people of some other district in his speech, due to which any positive result becomes impossible.
Whether or not all the promises made by community leaders in the public court were fulfilled, elections were held on time, and votes were sought by repeatedly proposing elections. Countless promises were made to educated and unemployed youth across the country to address the unemployment crisis, but without any real solution, the number of unemployed continues to rise day by day, which is a matter of serious concern.
Recently, the discussion surrounding the two slabs in income tax has reached fever pitch but however, if I mention the state of Jammu and Kashmir and tell about the stories of shopkeepers about the reduced rates under Slab 2 while purchasing goods, the shopkeepers jokingly suggest new pricing tricks, and the usual response is, “We haven’t received any instructions from the concerned companies yet about the decreased rated. Regarding those selling milk in packets, their straightforward response is that they haven’t seen any leniency in the rate hike.
