Jammu, Oct 18: The Department of Environmental Sciences, in collaboration with the Raavi Eco-Club of Government Degree College Kathua, successfully organized a field study visit to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) of the Municipal Council Kathua on 18 Oct, 2025. The visit took place under the able guidance of the Worthy Principal Dr. Sevi Behi, with the aim of providing hands-on learning experience on waste management practices. A group of 25 students from the Environmental Sciences department participated in the visit. They were accompanied by Prof. Arvind Kumar, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences, and Prof. Mohd. Suja. During the field study, students explored various scientific methodologies and approaches used in the management of dry and wet waste, including waste segregation, composting, shredding, and compaction. The visit enabled the students to observe the practical implementation of these techniques, thereby strengthening their academic understanding through real-world exposure. Mr. Amit Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Kathua, interacted with the students and provided an insightful overview of the facility’s operations. He elaborated on the significance of Material Recovery Facilities in promoting sustainable waste management and reducing environmental impact. The visit proved to be a valuable learning experience, reinforcing the students’ commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable practices. |
