Drug peddlers arrested with heroin, cash | | | early times report
Kishtwar, Oct 22: In continuation of its sustained campaign against the menace of drug trafficking, Kishtwar Police has further intensified its operations under a comprehensive anti-narcotics strategy. In a major success, three notorious drug peddlers were apprehended in two separate operations, leading to the recovery of over 14 grams of heroin-like substance and cash amounting to ₹24,800 from their possession. SSP Kishtwar Sh. Naresh Singh-JKPS, while sharing details, stated that Kishtwar Police under its intensified anti-drug drive has been continuously tightening the noose against drug syndicates operating in the district. He added that teams are maintaining strict surveillance at sensitive locations to ensure that no one involved in drug trafficking goes unchecked. On 20th October 2025, a police team from Police Station Kishtwar headed by S.I. Lal Hussain, while on patrol duty at Chowgan Ground, apprehended two notorious drug peddlers known as the Khanday Brothers. The arrested individuals have been identified as: 1) Mohd Iqbal Khanday 2) Mohd Yaseen Khanday Both are sons of Mohd Iqbal Khanday, residents of Keshwan and presently living at Shakti Nagar, Kishtwar. During their personal search, approximately 8 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. In a separate operation, a team from Police Post Shalimar led by PSI Sofi Ashraf, while patrolling in the Malipeth area, apprehended another notorious drug peddler identified as Ajaz Ahmed Khanday S/o Khushi Mohd Khanday R/o Thakrie A/P Girinagar Kishtwar. On his personal search, 5.5 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered. Accordingly, Case FIR Nos. 215/2025 and 217/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act have been registered at Police Station Kishtwar, and further investigation to unearth the wider nexus of the drug network is underway. SSP Kishtwar reiterated that Kishtwar Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and continues to urge the public to cooperate in eradicating this social evil.
