Week-long World Statistics Day celebrations conclude at G.G.M. Science College

Jammu, Oct 22: he Department of Statistics, G.G.M. Science College, Jammu, organized the Valedictory Function of the World Statistics Day Celebrations on 20th October 2025 in the conference hall of the college. The week-long celebration was held under the global theme “Driving Change with Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone.”
The function was graced by the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kr Gupta, as the Chief Guest. Dr.Gupta, a distinguished statistician himself, has played a pivotal role in establishing the Department of Statistics at G.G.M. Science College in 2025.
The event commenced with a Welcome Address by the Organizing Secretary, Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Head, Department of Statistics,GGM Science College, who warmly greeted the Chief Guest, faculty members, and students. He highlighted the growing importance of statistics in shaping evidence-based decisions and appreciated the enthusiastic participation of students in the various activities organized during the week.
As part of the World Statistics Day Week, the Department of Statistics organized a series of intellectually engaging and creative events, including a Poster Making Competition, an Extension Lecture, and a Seminar.
These activities were designed to enhance awareness about the vital role of statistics in research, planning, and sustainable development.
The Poster Making Competition witnessed active participation from students, who artistically presented the role of data in everyday life. The entries were evaluated by an esteemed panel of judges comprising Prof. Balkrishan, Dr. Neha Mahajan, and Dr. Arun Sharma.
An Extension Lecture was also delivered by Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kr Gupta, a renowned statistician, who spoke on the topic “Statistics for Sustainable Development,” emphasizing the need for reliable data in addressing contemporary global challenges. The Seminar sessions provided a platform for students to present papers and share insights on statistical applications in various disciplines.
In seminar the first prize was secured by Ambika Devi whereas second and third prizes were received by Radha Sharma and Rohini Thakur respectively. Mr Sarthak Sharma got consolation prize in the event.
The Chief Guest,lauded the efforts of the Department of Statistics for organizing the week-long celebration and for inspiring students to appreciate the significance of data in modern society. He encouraged the budding statisticians to continue exploring innovative ways to apply statistical knowledge for societal progress.
The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Neha Gupta, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the principal, guest speakers, judges, faculty members, and students for their enthusiastic participation and support in making the event a grand success.
The celebration concluded with the National Anthem and a group photograph, marking the successful culmination of the World Statistics Day Celebrations at G.G.M. Science College, Jammu — a testament to the college’s commitment to promoting statistical literacy and excellence.
