| Navy’s Deterrent Posture | | | Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh while addressing the Indian Navy’s three-day biannual Commanders’ Conference 2025 in New Delhi lauded the Navy’s strength during Operation Sindoor. He praised the force for its deterrent posture that forced Pakistan to remain in the harbour or near its coast. The combat readiness of the Navy sent a clear message to the world that it is always ready to respond to every challenge. The defence minister commended the force for creating a “deterrent posture” during the operation that he said forced Pakistan to remain in the harbour or near its coast. The presence of the Navy in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) is a matter of “comfort for the friendly nations” and “discomfort for those who seek to destabilise the region”. Beyond deterrence, the Indian Navy has played a pivotal role in ensuring stability and freedom of navigation in the IOR. Its humanitarian missions, anti-piracy operations, and disaster relief efforts have earned global respect. In many ways, the Navy embodies the idea of a “blue-water” force — one that is capable of sustaining operations far from its base, protecting India’s maritime interests, and supporting global peace efforts. Navy’s preparedness during ‘Operation Sindoor’ which was launched to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead, took the world by surprise. Operation Sindoor was a powerful message to terrorists and their bosses sitting across the Line of Control as the Indian armed forces destroyed nine terror camps deep inside Pakistan and Pakisan occupied Kashmir. It was a clear signal to the world that India will not remain a passive observer when its citizens are targeted. Instead, it will act with resolve, backed by a defence establishment that combines advanced technology with operational excellence. The Navy’s swift and coordinated response showed how effectively India’s military branches can work together under a unified vision of national security. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s words also remind us that India’s maritime ambitions are not rooted in aggression but in ensuring peace and stability. The country seeks to be a “net security provider” in the region, a role it has embraced with increasing confidence. As new challenges emerge—from piracy to geopolitical tensions—the Navy’s preparedness, as seen during Operation Sindoor, assures the nation that it is in capable hands. |
