| Experts lecture on interfaith dialogue | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 13- The Centre for New Literatures, Culture and Communication, University of Jammu organized special lectures on the subject “Relevance of Interfaith Dialogue Today” in which Professor Anne Pearson from McMaster University, Canada and Dr. Manoj Joshi, Consulting Editor, Mail Today, New Delhi delivered special addresses. Prof Varun Sahni, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, presided over the function. Prof Posh Charak, Director of the Centre formally presented the welcome address and Prof Chandra Mohan Academic Advisor introduced the distinguished speakers and the theme of the topic. Prof Anne Pearson raised the question as to why the dialogue between members of different religious is crucial to fostering a culture of peace and non-violence. She opined that there can be no peace in the world until there is peace between the religions and there can be no peace with the religious, until there is a dialogue between them. Dr. Manoj Joshi highlighted the fact that we need to educate people about the tenets and practices of different religions in order to tackle the problem of alienation from the faith. Prof. Rama Singh offered felicitation to the University of Jammu on behalf of McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada. He complimented the Centre for New Literatures, Culture and Communication, University of Jammu and Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar for organizing a wonderful event on the “Role of Women in Peace Building” in collaboration with Mahilla Shanti Sena (Canada-India). Prof. Varun Sahni in his stimulating inaugural remarks focused on the tenets of Religious Revival, Act of Faith and Clash of Civilizations. He sated that relevance of Interfaith is possible only when one gets an in-depth knowledge about the culture and the religion of various communities and learns to respect them. Dr. Monika Sethi compared the program and Dr. Sucheta Pathania proposed the vote of thanks.
