The festive season is over. For the past few days all of us were busy making preparations for Diwali, often known as the Festival of Lights. The entire surroundings were illuminated with the shimmering diyas, flickering lamps, and vibrant decorations with an aesthetic touch enveloped with joy, warmth, and celebration and inspiring togetherness and renewal - a time to embrace happiness, prosperity, and the promise of fresh beginnings, encouraging us to welcome the New Year with optimism. We enjoyed to the fullest enjoying sweets and bursting crackers Most of us celebrate this festival to the surface level without going into the depth. Have you ever realized these illuminations, decorations and celebrations have a profound meaning as they represent the eternal triumph of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair and the return of light after darkness? In fact every festival carries a symbolic meaning which very important for us to understand if we want to keep the essence of our traditions alive. In this article, I have cited the example of Diwali as the true quintessence of awakening the inner self. The festival serves as an invitation to illuminate our inner being with virtues that truly define our character — compassion, humility, and kindness. This, in essence, is Diwali’s greatest lesson. Yet, amidst the glittering decorations, lavish feasts, and joyous gatherings, a subtle truth often escapes our notice — that our real radiance lies not in the external sparkle, but in the light that glows within us, our true pulchritude. Consequently, while we devote immense effort to adorning our outer selves — dressing beautifully, decorating our homes, and creating an inviting ambiance — we frequently overlook the light within: the inner beauty that defines our character, kindness, and resilience. Being over occupied with our outer self we fail to realize that true illumination comes not just from the diyas we place around us, but from the compassion, wisdom, and positivity we nurture within. When the inside is pure and bright, it naturally radiates through your actions, words, and presence. That is why it is as essential to brighten our inner world as it is to light up the external one — to cultivate virtues, spread warmth to others, and let our inner radiance shine as brightly as the lamps that surround us.. Life reminds us that the greatest battle is often the one we fight within ourselves. Often, the hardest fight we face is not with others, but with our own thoughts, emotions, and weaknesses. Undoubtedly Ravana’s brilliance was undeniable, yet his pride and unchecked emotions became his true enemies. Similarly, no amount of external success or knowledge can shine brightly if our inner world is clouded by negativity. Therefore, there is a call from our inner self for introspection: to recognize the Ravanas within us - ego, anger, hatred, impatience, enmity, frustration, stress, hastiness. By overcoming these inner obstacles, we allow our inner light to shine freely. This light of humility, modesty, calmness, love, compassion, generosity, empathy, patience, friendliness, kindness, understanding, self-discipline, and inner peace illuminates not only our own lives—brightening our hearts and rippling out into the world—but also those around us, enriching relationships and strengthening communities. In the larger journey of life, the true illumination comes not from lamps we light outside, but from the glow we awaken within, dispelling darkness from our hearts, and celebrating the victory of virtue over ego. Existence itself, then, is not merely about seeking outer illumination, but about but about kindling the lamp within, focusing not just on outward sparkle, but on fostering the inner qualities that create lasting brilliance: a heart that loves and a spirit that serves quietly and humbly - touching lives beyond our own and spreading warmth, hope, and joy throughout the community. It doesn’t take grand actions to make a difference— even simple acts can have a profound impact. You can always start with small steps and still create big, meaningful changes in the world. Even small gestures — comforting a frightened pet, rescuing an injured bird, or simply observing animals with patience and respect — reflect compassion that goes far beyond words. Likewise, a warm hug for our parents, a moment of attentive listening, helping them with small chores, or expressing gratitude for their endless sacrifices are silent yet powerful ways of showing love. These little acts of care illuminate our inner selves — spreading light through kindness, empathy, and heartfelt connection. By combining respect for parents, care for birds and animals, concern for nature, and generosity toward the less fortunate, we cultivate an inner light that reflects the truest essence of our being.. So let us strive to make a difference by focusing not just on cleaning and decorating our homes, but also on a deeper personal cleansing — of our thoughts, emotions, and intentions — marked by kindness to animals, mindfulness toward the environment, and generosity toward those in need. In doing so, we spread a light that is lasting, meaningful, and truly luminous — for it is not only our homes that shine, but also our hearts, communities, and the world itself. Your inner self is waiting for your attention. So take a step to awaken the light within. Remember that even the smallest spark of kindness, awareness, or compassion can overcome the heaviest burdens. By nurturing this inner radiance, we create a glow that no outward display can match — a light that transcends occasions, rituals, or external recognition. This inner brilliance outshines fleeting distractions, leaving warmth and illumination that lasts far beyond the moment. Let it be a quiet celebration, showing itself and leaving its mark in subtle, enduring ways, far beyond the reach of any lamp, firework, or fleeting decoration. The glow of diyas may fade, but the light within — of truth, love, and self-realization — shines forever. Slightly rephrasing the lyrics of a song from the movie Pardes to convey my message: London dhekha, Paris dhekha, Sab dhekha meri jaan. Bas na dekha to dekha sabse zaroori jo hai - apne ander ka insaan. So let make a new beginning. Come on, let us go for it.
