Amritsar, Oct 25: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of DAV College organized a significant "Cleanliness Drive" as part of its ongoing commitment to social responsibility and environmental stewardship. The day-long event, held across the entire college campus, witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 200 NSS volunteers, faculty members, and staff. The drive was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr Amardeep Gupta who commended the initiative and stressed the importance of cultivating a clean and sustainable environment. In his inaugural address, he stated, "A clean campus is not just an aesthetic choice; it is a reflection of our discipline and respect for our shared environment. This drive by our dedicated NSS volunteers sets a powerful example for the entire student community and aligns with the national mission of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan." The primary objective of the campaign was to enhance the cleanliness and hygiene standards of the college grounds, gardens, parking areas, and academic blocks. Volunteers, armed with gloves, garbage bags, and brooms, worked tirelessly to collect non-biodegradable waste, including plastic bottles, wrappers, and other litter. Special attention was given to areas that are often overlooked, ensuring a thorough and impactful clean-up. Dr Samriti Aggarwal , the NSS Program Officer, highlighted the broader vision behind the drive, saying, "Through this initiative, we aim to move beyond a one-day event and instill a lasting sense of ownership and responsibility among students.Cleanliness is a habit we must integrate into our daily lives, and today's effort is a strong step in that direction." The event also served as an awareness campaign, with volunteers educating their peers about the critical importance of waste segregation and the adverse effects of plastic pollution on the ecosystem. |
