| District judge to probe firing incident | | | SRINAGAR, SEPT 23 Jammu and Kashmir government has appointed District and Sessions Judge Sayed Tariq Naqashbandi to inquire into causes and circumstances that led to firing by Army at Doodhipora in Handwara of Kupwara district earlier this year, resulting in the death of four boys.
Besides identifying the persons, if any, whose negligence caused the incident, the inquiry officer would fix responsibility on those who used excessive force that resulted in four deaths, an official spokesperson said here today.
The District Judge had been asked to submit his report within two months.
Naqashbandi has also been asked to recommend necessary action against those found negligent or guilty and also suggest remedial measures to avoid reccurence of such incidents in future, the spokesperson said.
Army personnel had allegedly shot dead the four teenaged boys at Doodhipora during late evening hours on February 22 last, mistaking them for militants.
The killings led to mass protests across the Kashmir Valley, with protestors demanding action against the erring jawans.
Naqashbandi had also held an inquiry into Wullar boat capsize tragedy recently in which 22 schoolchildren had drowned.
