Kathua, Oct 25: Chhath, the grand festival of worshipping the Sun, began on Saturday, October 25, and will continue until Tuesday morning, October 28. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm by both locals and those from outside Kathua. Residents of Kathua's renowned CTM and other units celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm. Vice Chairman of the CTM, Manoj Kumar Jha, along with his team, visited the ghat along the canal. He stated that, as every year, the ghat along the canal running through the heart of Kathua city has been cleaned and decorated. Where tents, lights and other facilities are provided for fasting women. Manoj Kumar Jha explained that according to the Hindu calendar, Chhathi Maiya is primarily worshipped on the sixth day of the bright fortnight of the Kartik month. Chhath festival is celebrated six days after Diwali. During Chhath Puja, the Sun and Chhathi Maiya are especially worshipped. Worshiping her bestows the blessings of progeny, child protection, and happiness and prosperity. Chhath Maiya is considered the sister of the Sun God. He explained that the four-day long Chhath festival is primarily celebrated with great enthusiasm in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. However, people from other parts of the country who have come to Kathua to earn a living also celebrate Chhath Puja with great enthusiasm. He appealed to the people to celebrate Chhath festival with full pomp and show and any kind of hooliganism will not be tolerated.
