| Clashes marks polling in Baramulla | | | Early Times Report Srinagar: Day after chief minister Omar Abdullah wished that Sajjad Lone should have been National Conference, NC candidate for the parliamentary elections, activists of NC and Peoples Conference, PC clashed at Handwara forcing police to intervene. Clashes also erupted at Rafiabad, Magam and Naidkhai area of Handwara and Sonawari in north Kashmir. Police sources told that dozens of PC and NC activists clashed at polling booth number 52 at Girls higher secondary School at Handwara. Trouble erupted when PC activists alleged that their voters are not being allowed to vote on one or the other pretext. The PC workers alleged that their names have been struck off from the voter lists and they have not been even been informed about the development. Eyewitnesses told that as the PC activists started to raise anti-government slogans the NC activists resorted back. The slogan shouting turned into a brawl between the two rivals forcing the police to intervene. Sources said that police resorted to mild baton charge resulting in injuries to five people. In another incident of clashes between the NC and PC activists, three people sustained injuries when activists of both the parties alleged booth capturing by their opponents at Magam in Handwara. Sources told that police had to interfere to separate the angry activists. At Rafiabad activists of PDP and NC clashed after allegations and counter allegations of booth capturing. Sources said that dozens of PDP and NC activists clashed at Rafiabad leaving two people injured. The NC and PDP workers clashed at Naidkhai Sonawari at Booth number 50 after allegations of booth capturing from both the sides surfaced. Sources said that one NC activist Ghulam Qadir Dar was injured after being attacked by rival PDP workers.
Sources said that police and CRPF had to face a tough time in getting the two warring groups separated. Police sources told that another woman identified as Afroza daughter of Abdul Rashid Lone was injured in the clashes. Afroza was later shifted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar where her condition is stated to be critical.
