| Majority stay away from booths Sopore, Baramulla | | | Early Times Report Srinagar: As electorate turn in fairly good numbers in other thirteen assembly constituencies in north Kashmir, Baramulla and Sopore segments witness relatively good response to the call of boycott by the pro-freedom leadership.
While almost all the polling booths in old town of Baramulla remained deserted, there was relative lesser number of voters in other areas in town. Similarly, Sopore assembly constituency witnessed better response to the boycott call by the separatists.
According to the reports reaching Press Bureau of India, only a single vote was casted out of 912 votes at Kanlibagh polling station No.19/B at 1133 hours while at nine votes were polled in polling station no Azadgunj Baramulla at 0845 hours. At sheeri, Polling station No. 12 A, 111 votes were casted out of 862 at around 1315 hours with no people waiting outside the polling booth.
At 18/B Heewan Sheeri, 194 people out of 628 registered voters, had casted their franchise at around 1300 hours.
In polling booth no 16-B Fatehgurd, 136 votes, from 736 registered electorate, were polled at around same time. At Fatehgurd 15-A, 123/673 votes were casted.
According to officials, 12.90 percent people voted until 1300 hours in the Baramulla constituency. While the number had risen upto 1500 hours as 17.71 percent.
The picture was quite same in neighboring Sopore, the home town of Syed Ali Shah geelai, chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference.
Only six out of 606 votes were casted at Edipora Bomai, booth no 21-A while at 21-B 2 out of 617 were voted at around 10 am. According to official figures, Sopore registered 7.46 percent at 13 hours while in two hours, the percentage showed two percent increase and was 9.49 percent at 1500 hours.
The twin constituencies also registered a relative lower percentage in last year’s assembly polls. In over sixty percents polls for other assembly segments Sopore registered 19 percent while Baramulla had about 33 percent.
