Thannamandi, Oct 29: Government Degree College (GDC) Thannamandi organized an essay writing competition on the theme "Corruption: A Curse in Society" as part of Vigilance Awareness Week, observed from 27th October to 2nd November. The event was held under the patronage of Principal, Dr. Farooq Ahmad. In his address, the worthy Principal emphasized the importance of integrity and ethical conduct in building a just society. He stated, “Corruption not only erodes public trust but also hampers development and progress. It is our collective responsibility to nurture values of honesty and transparency among the youth.” He congratulated the participants for their thoughtful contributions and encouraged them to be vigilant citizens. Prof. Nazakat Hussain, while addressing the gathering, highlighted the role of education in combating corruption. He praised the students for their insightful essays and urged them to continue raising awareness on social issues. A significant number of students participated enthusiastically in the competition, showcasing their awareness and perspectives on the pressing issue of corruption. Among the participants, Aliya Fatima secured the first prize, followed by Iram Dar in second place and Haya Abad in third. Coordianted by Dr. Nazar ul Islam and Dr. Supriya Gupta, the event was graced by several faculty members, including Dr. Goher Iqbal, Dr Shiraz Ahmad, Dr. Athar Aziz Raina, and Dr. Minakshi Sharma. The panel of judges comprised Dr. Junaid, Dr. Nazakat Hussain, and Dr. Altaf Hussain, who evaluated the entries with great diligence.
