Husband gets life imprisonment for killing his wife

Kathua, May14- Principal Sessions Judge Kathua Kartar Singh today awarded life-imprisonment to accused Harbans Lal resident of Chak Nathal Tehsil Hiranagar District Kathua who was facing trial in a case committing murder of his wife.
After hearing Public Prosecutor BB Sharma appearing for the state and Advocate SC Sharma appearing for the accused persons and also going through the witnesses and perusing the evidence adduced by the prosecution and taking into consideration the circumstances under which the crime has been committed, found that it is not a rarest of the rare case and it is a fit case where the accused deserves only life-imprisonment. The accused is sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life and fine Rs 5000, the Court ordered.
According to the case on February 28, 2001 the Lambardar Madan Lal of Chak Nathal lodged oral report in the police post Chadwal stating therein that Harbans Lal son of Fouja Ram of Chak Nathwal used to beat his wife Mahindro Devi and on the previous night at about 10 PM Harbans Lal administered beating to his wife and inflicted an injury on her head with a “Darat” as a result of which she died on spot. On this information Lambardar went on the spot and saw that the dead-body lying inside a room as she had sustained injury on her head, whereas Harbans Lal was absconding. On this report commission of offence falling u/s 302 RPC was registered and after completion of the investigation challan was presented in the Court of law which was committed to Sessions Court Kathua.
