| Kissan Union seeks implementation of demands | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 14 - All J&K Kissan Union in a meeting of its executive committee held under the chairmanship of Ashok Sharma, has expressed serious concern over the non-functioning of lift irrigation schemes and lack of procurement and marketing facilities for the farmers produce like food grains, vegetables and fruit. The Kissan Union urged upon state government to make functional the lift irrigation schemes of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts and also formulate a procurement and marketing policy for the farming community. The Union constituted two separate committees on lift irrigation and procurement and marketing. The marketing committee will consisting on eight members will be headed by Dr. J.L. Gupta, former Director Sheep Husbandry and R.N. Khajuria, Dr. Satish Parkash, M.S. Jamwal, H.S. Bilouria, Susheel Sharma and Har Dutt as members, whereas the 4 member committee on irrigation will be headed by Dr. Satish Parkash with Raghunandan Khajuria, Mohinder Singh and H.S Balouria as its members. The committees will furnish the status reports and suggest remedial measures within a period of 10 days, which will deliberated by the executive committee on 24th of May 2009 at Jammu and after approval of the executive, the reports shall be transmitted to the government for appropriate action. The Union deliberated on different issues and decided to request the government to provide compensation against crop loss due to fires in R.S. Pura, cattle- crop insurance, Kissan Bhawans at district level, timely supply of seeds of fertilizers, 80% budgetary allocations for farming community and reservations of seats in profession colleges and employment on the basis of proportional population of farmers.
