                    | Rebuilding Chishoti | | | The process to rebuild cloudburst hit Chishoti village in Kishtwar District has commenced.Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has laid the foundation stone for construction of 19 new houses for flood-affected families. These structures will be rebuilt free of cost with support of High-range Rural Development Society (HRDS India), a Civil Society Organisation. On August 14, this year, the catastrophic floods swept away precious lives, wiped out several homes and tore through infrastructure. LG Sinha after laying the foundation stone for the news houses exuded hope that the three-bedroom pre-fabricated smart houses will help bring the lives of the affected families back on track. He appreciated the HRDS India for its noble initiative. On the ill-fated day more than 60 people died in the calamity that hit the remote village. When the disaster struck large groups of pilgrims were gathered at Chisoti village— a key stop on the pilgrimage to the Machail Mata Mandir — and were collecting food from a langar. The flash floods washed many people of which more than 60 died, many suffered injuries and many were rescued. Search and rescue operations continued for many days to trace the missing persons. The Jammu and Kashmir Government reaching out to the HRDS India and it reciprocating by agreeing to rebuild the damaged houses demonstrates compassion, partnership, and purpose. It shows how collective efforts between the government and civil society can accelerate rehabilitation and foster sustainable rebuilding in disaster-hit regions. The LG’s assurance that these new homes will bring the lives of affected families “back on track” is not merely a statement of intent but a vision of resilience and renewal. Beyond the reconstruction of physical structures, this initiative embodies the reconstruction of hope. Disasters such as the one that devastated Chishoti test not only infrastructure but the human spirit. Yet, the courage displayed by survivors, the tireless efforts of rescue teams, and the timely intervention of the administration have collectively shown that adversity can be met with determination and compassion. The emergency responders, district administration, Army, NDRF, SDRF, Police, armed forces, local community, youth and voluntary organizations played a pivotal role when the disaster struck. They saved many precious lives, evacuating devotees to safety and providing timely medical care. LG Sinha expressed gratitude and praised them for their exemplary courage. They set an example for one and all. |
