| GDC Hiranagar, organises Industrial visit for the students | | |  early times report
Hiranagar, Nov 4: An industrial visit was organized by Govt. GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar, for the students of Department of Environmental Sciences and Department of Chemistry. The students of semester 5th visited Universal Plastic Industries, a recycling Unit, situated in Industrial Area, Kathua. The students very keenly observed various processes involved in the recycling of plastic. The officials from the industrial unit guided students about working and functionality of the industry. They showed various processes involved in recycling like sorting plastic waste by type, shredding it into smaller pieces, and then washing and cleaning it to remove contaminants. Finally the cleaned plastic is melted and extruded into pellets. They said that the plastic pellets formed in the industry acts as raw material for various other industries where it is molded into different products. The visit was organized under the patronage of esteemed Principal of the college, Dr. Pragya Khanna. She addressed students and said that recycling of plastic wastes conserves natural resources, saves energy, reduces pollution and minimizes the amount of wastes in landfills and oceans. Dr Anupma Arora (Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry) also guided students about promoting recycling as it fosters greater environmental awareness and encourages more sustainable practices. The visit was coordinated by Prof. Neeru Sharma, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences and convener Eco-club. She briefed students about the plastic hazard and importance of recycling plastic. She said that keeping plastic out of landfills and environment, protects ecosystem and wildlife from the harm of plastic pollution. Dr Manpreet Kaur from Department of Chemistry and Dr. Nishu from Department of Environmental Sciences also accompanied the visit and guided the students at each and every step. |
