QCFI convention on Quality Concepts CCQC-2025 held at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University

Jammu, Nov 4: one-day conference on “Quality Concepts” was organized at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) in collaboration with the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI), Delhi Chapter. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and invocation to Goddess Saraswati. Delivering the welcome address, Mr. Anirudh Kaushik, Secretary, QCFI Delhi Chapter, said that the forum aims to reach academic institutions that are nurturing future generations with technical and intellectual excellence. He highlighted that over the past few years, QCFI has been organizing conferences in various engineering colleges and universities on Total Quality Management (TQM), Kaizen, Quality Circles, and 5S concepts to prepare the youth for future challenges.
The Chief Guest of the inaugural session, Prof. (Dr.) Pragati Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, emphasized the need to adopt the concept of quality across all sectors in India. He stated, “If educational institutions wish to contribute to the making of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), they must embed quality principles into their institutional culture and daily practices.”
Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean, Academic Affairs, spoke on improving the quality of life by applying the eight dimensions of quality given by Professor David A. Garvin, underscoring the broader relevance of quality concepts beyond industries. Providing details about the event, Mr. Anirudh Kaushik informed that this was the first QCFI conference of the year, with 51 teams representing 34 organizations participating.
He expressed gratitude to all participating institutions. Mr. Avinash Upadhyay, Director (North India), QCFI, appreciated the significant contributions made by various organizations in promoting and implementing quality improvement initiatives. The Conference Convener and Chief Jury, Mr. Ganesh Upadhyay, stated that “the objective of this platform is to promote mutual learning and a spirit of continuous improvement.”
He thanked all judges and organizing members for their support and shared an overview of the event’s activities. In the valedictory session, the Chief Guest Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma (JKAS), Registrar, SMVDU, spoke on the theme “Atmanirbhar Viksit Bharat” and emphasized that quality is not just a principle but should become an integral part of institutional culture. He appreciated the efforts of QCFI for spreading the message of quality across educational and industrial institutions. On this occasion, Mr. Neeraj Gupta (JKAS), Finance Officer, SMVDU, said that the university strives to make its students capable enough to face corporate challenges confidently.
Teams from Bharat Electronics, Minda Group, Tata Steel, Sandhar, Hero MotoCorp, Denso, Roop Polymers, Gabriel, Krishna Maruti and other leading organizations showcased their quality improvement projects through presentations. Outstanding teams were awarded by QCFI for their exemplary work. Students of SMVDU also presented captivating cultural performances during the event.
Mr. B.K. Bhatia, along with various professors and student volunteers, contributed as observers and coordinators. The successful execution of the conference was made possible through the dedicated support of QCFI staff members Mr. Ashwini and Mr. Santosh, as well as the university’s IT Team, Electricity Department, Auditorium Team, and Support Staff.
