| 65 cops died during LS polls | | | Early Times Report
New Delhi, May 14: As many as 65 people, most of them security personnel, lost their lives in different violent incidents during the just concluded Lok Sabha elections. Among the dead, the Central paramilitary forces took the maximum brunt, losing 34 personnel in the hands of naxal and other extremists forces, Home Ministry sources said. Twenty-one civilians lost their lives in different incidents during the poll process while 10 state police force personnel were also killed. Within the paramilitary forces, CRPF lost 22 personnel, mostly at the hands of the Naxals. The BSF, which had deployed 205 companies (20,500 men) during the polls, too lost eight of its personnel at the hands of the left wing extremists who had upped their ante during the polls especially in Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. The CISF, which had deployed 150 companies (15,000 men) lost four of its personnel, which included three due to natural causes like heart attack. The CISF suffered a setback just before the fourth phase held on May seven, when an Uttar Pradesh Transport Bus carrying its personnel met with an accident killing one and injuring five. The five injured lost their right arms in the wee hour accident but they were stitched back by doctors at AIIMS.
