LUDHIANA: Religious tourism is set to get a boost with railway authorities scheduled to start Garib Rath Express between Delhi junction and Jammu
Tawi station to cater to those travelling to Vaishno Devi shrine, from Friday.
With summer months accounting for maximum rush during the year, the special train
is likely to bring relief to thousands of passengers, especially with other trains already running full. At the same time, this could prove to be a boom for railways in terms of revenue.
According to information, the train would depart Delhi junction on every Friday from May 15 to June 26 at 10:50pm and arrive at Jammu Tawi station at 09:10am the next day, Saturday.
On its return journey, the train would leave Jammu Tawi on every Saturday from May 16 to June 27 at 08.15pm, to arrive at Delhi junction at 6.35am the next day, Sunday. The 18-coach train would stop at Ambala, Ludhiana and Chakki Bank stations enroute on both sides.
Divisional commercial manager Parminder Singh said the weekly train was targeted at easing the woes of summer-time travellers. “After the encouraging response to another weekly train between Mumbai and Amritsar, we decided to start other such services. The weeklies started during this season can be made permanent depending upon the feedback.”
