Doda police cracks motorcycle theft case within 48 hours, 2 accused arrested

Doda, Nov 8: In a swift and effective operation, Doda Police cracked a motorcycle theft case within 48 hours of its registration and apprehended two accused persons involved in the crime.
On November 5, 2025, Police Station Assar received a written complaint from Omair Ullah Wani S/o Hadhayat Ullah Wani, stating that his motorcycle bearing registration number JK06A-6107 had gone missing from the Jathi area.
Acting promptly, FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Assar. On the directions of SSP Doda Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), a special team led by PSI Shivam Dev Singh, under the supervision of DySP DAR Doda and SHO Police Station Assar, was constituted to investigate the case.
During the course of investigation, acting on specific leads, two suspects were detained in the early hours of November 6. During sustained questioning, both confessed to having stolen the motorcycle during the intervening night of October 26 which was recovered from their possession. The accused were identified as:
1️ Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, S/o Mohd Aslam, R/o Bhagtha, Katra, District Reasi — a Habitual Offender and Absconder
2️ Munish Kumar, S/o Mansa Ram, R/o Bali Chanalra Bhalesa, District Doda
During scrutiny of their criminal antecedents, it was revealed that Mohd Tariq @ Baffer is a habitual offender and absconder, wanted in multiple criminal cases across several districts and states. He has been involved in a series of thefts, burglaries, and other offences under the IPC and NDPS Act.

FIR No. 14/2017 U/S 457/380 /201 RPC P/S Katra, 7. FIR No. 201/2017 U/S 382 RPC P/S Katra, 8. FIR No. 222/2019 U/S 457/380 IPC P/S Kangra (HP), 9. FIR No. 131/2019 U/S 379/411/ 414/34/201 IPC P/S Dharamshala (HP), 10. FIR No. 21/2020 U/S 457/380 /201/341 IPC P/S Kangra (HP), 11. FIR No. 27/2020 U/S 379 IPC P/S Sadar Dharamshala, 12. FIR No. 154/2021 U/S 454/380 IPC P/S Nowabad, 13. FIR No. 168/2021 U/S 379 IPC P/S Udhampur, 14. FIR No. 188/2021 U/S 379 IPC P/S Katra, 15. FIR No. 191/2021 U/S 279 IPC P/S Katra, 16. The above named absconder had been evading arrest for a considerable period and was wanted in several districts including Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Kangra, Dharamshala, Nurpur, and Shimla (HP).
He was involved in numerous offences, including theft, burglary, drug-related crimes, and other serious charges under various sections of the IPC and NDPS Act. It is pertinent to mention that the Hon’ble Court had earlier issued a general warrant of Arrest U/S 512 Cr.PC against him.
The prompt and professional action of the team of Police Station Assar, leading to the arrest of a habitual offender and rapid progress in the case, reflects the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of Doda Police towards maintaining peace, order, and public safety in the district.
