Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 8: State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K, in collaboration with Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, organised a felicitation programme for the families of eye donors on Saturday (8-11-2025) at GMC Jammu. The event was graced by Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal & Dean GMC Jammu, Dr Elias Sharma, HOD Urology & Renal Transplant and Nodal Officer SOTTO J&K, Dr Poonam Mahajan, Joint Director SOTTO J&K, Atul Gupta, CAO GMC Jammu, Ms. Jyoti Rokri, AAO SSH Jammu, Dr Sanjeev Puri, Former Joint Director SOTTO J&K and family members of the eye donors besides other dignitaries. At the outset, Dr Poonam Mahajan welcomed the guests and the families present and gave a brief overview of the programme. This was followed by the release of 3rd annual newsletter of SOTTO "Naman", by the dignitaries. Naman highlights key activities, achievements, awareness initiatives and progress in the field of organ donation in the Union Territory. To acknowledge the compassionate contribution of donors, the family members who were present were honoured with a certificate of gratitude. They were also given a copy of newsletter ,where the pictures of their loved ones figured. A total of 12 families of eye donors were felicitated on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ashutosh Gupta said that every donor family stands as a living example that humanity, even in moments of deepest grief, can still choose to give hope. He further added that the organ donation system needs to be further strengthened as there is a huge need for Organ recipient. He suggested that religious leaders should be approached for the cause as they can help to create awareness in the community. The entire event was held under the supervision and leadership of Dr Elias Sharma and managed by Anshu Sharma, Consultant (IEC/Media), Irfan Ahmad Lone, TC, Nisha Kumari, DEO and Drivers Ashok Singh and Ashwani Kumar. |
