| For police,not for sale,is on sale in Jammu market | | | Jammu,July 14: Whatever may be the reason rain coats,meant for the police,are on sale in some shops in the city of temples.
After receiving a tip a team of Kashmir Independent Press,posing as customers,purchased a rain coat from a shop.”For JK Police,not for sale” was stamped on the rain coat.The dealer,before delivering the coat to the Reporter,scratched the stamp despite objections raised by the customer.
The customer told the dealer “the stamped matter will not bother me as it will vanish after one wash.” To this the dealer replied “Yes,I know a wash can wash it out but I cannot sell it to any customer without removing the stamped matter.”
He confirmed that a police official of the rank of inspector had sold a bundle of rain coats and in return had purchased one rubber shoes (duckback).
The dealer said that the police officials,deployed in the farflung and militancy infested areas, preferred a non-khaki rain coats to the one being issued from the police stores because they do not want to get identified by the militants.
In reply to a question the shopkeeper said “well I cannot gurantee if the rain coats, smuggled from the police stores,would be purchased by militants who could later carry out attacks wearing these very rain coats.
The stock of rain coats,supplied to the shopkeeper by the police official,was fresh.It was not used item indicating that many more items from the police stores was finding way to open markets. |
