early times report
Jammu, Nov 12: Senior BJP leader from Jammu South, Pradeep Sharma, has advocated for conducting Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections simultaneously. He said that from 1951-52 to 1967, Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in India were mostly held simultaneously, but this cycle was broken later. Now, holding elections at different times every year puts a heavy financial burden on the government and stakeholders. In addition, the long deployment of security forces and election officials, and the Model Code of Conduct, create obstacles in development work and other problems arise. Citing the 170th report of the Law Commission of India, Sharma said it is necessary to end the cycle of frequent and chaotic elections. He also mentioned the 79th report of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of December 2015, which considered the possibility of simultaneous elections. |
