Jammu, Nov 12: Model Academy School in collaboration with the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA), Jammu Branch, organized an Awareness Campaign on Compression Only Life Support (COLS) at its B.C. Road campus. The programme aimed to educate students and staff about the importance of timely action during cardiac emergencies and to equip them with basic life-saving skills. The session was conducted by a distinguished team of medical professionals from various Government Medical Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir, including Dr. Anita Vig Professor & Head, Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care, GMC Jammu, Dr. Ashwani Kumar Professor and President, ISA Jammu, Dr. Updesh Kumar Assistant Professor and General Secretary, ISA Jammu Branch, Dr. Mushtaq Wani Assistant Professor, Dr. Ankita Atri Assistant Professor, GMC Udhampur, and Dr. Sucheta Hans Assistant Professor, GMC Kathua. A team of dynamic Postgraduate Doctors — Dr. Aneesha, Dr. Tarun, Dr. Kritika, Dr. Kamayani, and Dr. Agrima— enacted an engaging skit demonstrating how to perform CPR during cardiac emergencies. They also provided hands-on practice to students, ensuring that everyone could learn and apply the correct technique of Compression Only Life Support with confidence. Their interactive approach and lively presentation not only simplified complex medical concepts but also inspired students to become more responsible, aware, and proactive citizens. The young audience was deeply motivated by the doctors’ dedication, compassion, and message that anyone, even without medical training, can save a life with presence of mind and courage. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Anita Vig explained that Compression Only Life Support is a simple yet crucial technique that can be performed by anyone to sustain life until professional help arrives. The demonstration highlighted that timely chest compressions, even without mouth-to-mouth breathing, can double or triple a person’s chance of survival during cardiac arrest. Ms. Rupa Gupta, Joint Director, MIER, appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of awareness-based education that empowers individuals to respond confidently in critical situations. Mr. J. K. Dhiman, Vice-Principal, lauded the efforts of the organising team for successfully coordinating an event that blended science, awareness, and humanity. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Prince, expressing appreciation to the doctors, guests, and participants for making the campaign a resounding success.
