| Court orders Police action | | Brick kiln accused to take labourers hostage | | Early Times Reporter Jammu, May 15- In a habeas corpus petition filed by Arvind from UP seeking release of 56 labourers, illegally confined by the brick kiln owners, Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Jammu Wing, today directed SSP Jammu District to produce the persons before the nearest Magistrate to get their statements recorded, as they have been allegedly kept in illegal confinement of two brick-kiln owners. Court, after hearing Advocate ZA Mugahl appearing for the petitioner, issued notice to state of J&K through Home Secretary, District Magistrate Jammu, Assistant Labour Commissioner Jammu, SSP Jammu, Ram Krishan owner of JRBK Brick-kiln and Goverdhan Munshi owner of another brick-kiln and also issued notice in the CMP subject to objection and till next date of hearing issued aforesaid directions to SSP Jammu. In the petition it has been submitted that petitioner and the detenues were contacted by the brick-kiln owners in their village in UP and they entered into a contract for manufacturing Kaccha Bricks at the brick-kiln of the respondents at the arte of 335 per thousand. The detenues reached at the brick kiln along with their belongings as per the terms and conditions of the contract and started working in the brick-kiln. Till filling this petition the work at the spot valued at Rs 60000 but when asked for payment the respondents delayed the payment. The detenues requested the respondents to leave them so that they may go their home and earn their bread after taking payment but the respondents not only refused the payment but even beat them and also kept in illegal confinements, the petition said and prayed before the Court for issuance of direction to respondents to release the detenues.
