Early Times Report
Jammu, May 15- Defeating her nearest rival by a margin of 35 votes, Dr. Kavita Suri, Assistant Director, Centre for Adult, Continuing Education and Extension (CACE&E), University of Jammu was today declared elected as the new joint secretary of Jammu University Teachers' Association (JUTA). The election to the post held here today saw a key contest between Dr Kavita Suri and Dr Sapna Sangra, Department of Sociology.
While Dr Kavita Suri got 111 votes of Jammu University teachers, Dr Sangra polled 76 votes. Four votes were declared invalid by the Election Commissioner Professor V.P.Magotra. A total of 191 votes were polled today for electing Joint Secretary of JUTA.
With today's election, the new body of JUTA is complete now as the elections to JUTA President and Vice president were held on last Monday. In these elections, Professor Dileep Singh Jamwal, Department of Mathematics had defeated his rival candidate Prof Dipankar Sengupta by a significant margin for the post of president JUTA while Professor Vijay Dev Singh in the Department of Distance Education (DDE) was elected as vice-president.
Dr Pankaj Srivastva of Department of Geology and Savita Nayar, Department of Law were elected as general secretary and treasurer uncontested respectively.
Interestingly, this year JUTA polls were held in two phases as nobody had filed nomination papers earlier for the posts of Joint secretary and general secretary. Resulting this, the JUTA elections Election Commissioner had to re-notify the polls for the elections to the post of joint secretary.
