| Thakur recalls Journey as Natrang turns 26 | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 15- Natrang celebrated its 27th Foundation Day here today with the opening of a weeklong program at Natrang Studio Theatre to mark the occasion. Describing about the twenty-six glorious years of excellence in theatre, Natrang director Balwant Thakur informed here today that, Natrang created a history in Indian theatre with over 4000 major shows of 224 plays and made an all-time record of 125 participations in National and International Theatre Festivals. Natrang was established in the year 1983 by Balwant Thakur with the help of Vijay Attri, Prabodh Jamwal, Arun Sharma, Aasha Arora, Jugal Kaul, Suresh Sharma, Vijay Sharma and Nariender Sachaar and the occasion marked the presentation of two short plays ‘Neeli Jheel and ‘Nanhen Kandhey Pair’ on May 15, 1983 at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu. The lead actor of Neeli Jheel’, Arvind Anand who performed on the one still continues with Natrang and currently plays the role of Bawa Jitto. In twenty-six years Natrang brought the Jammu theatre to the National and International limelight and its highly acclaimed plays traveled the whole length and breadth of the country. Out of the 4000 shows by Natrang in last twenty six years, the number of maximum number of participation is shared by Neeraj Kant, Anil Tickoo, Sanjeev Gupta, Pankaj Sharma, Sat Salarbi, Suresh Kumar, Vijay Bhat, Vikrant Sharma and Sumeet Sharma Natrang is currently running three major wings which include the Natrang Repertory, Natrang’s Theatre for Mass Motivation and Children’s Club. In addition to this the group runs a regular theatre training program- ‘The Actors Workshop’ in which twenty regular trainees undergo training at one time. Natrang is in the process of establishing an International Theatre centre in Jammu which will house an Auditorium, Theatre studios, resource centre, hostel, a café and an open-air theatre. Natrang has a mission to establish Jammu as the ultimate destination of theatre and the most sought after place for the intellectuals, art lovers and the art practioners. Today’s function included the presentation of a new play ‘Sultaan’ written by Mahesh Elkunchwar and directed by Balwant Thakur
