Chandigarh, Nov 13: Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women paid rich tributes to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, commemorating his 350th martyrdom anniversary through a special lecture and a book exhibition dedicated to the revered ‘Hind di Chadar’. The Department of History organised the special lecture on the life and teachings of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, while the Department of Punjabi and the College Library, in collaboration with Bhasha Vibhag, Punjab, curated a thematic book exhibition to mark the occasion.
The resource person for the lecture was Dr. Karamjit Kaur Malhotra, Former Head, Department of History and Punjab Historical Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Malhotra delivered an insightful discourse on the life, sacred Gurbani, and enduring teachings of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. She highlighted that Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s martyrdom, symbolised the spirit of supreme sacrifice for the ideal of freedom of conscience and the triumph of moral courage over fear, coercion and tyranny. She further added that his shabads link the divine attribute of fearlessness with spiritual liberation, reflecting his unwavering opposition to oppression and religious intolerance. While he is revered as the saviour of Hinduism, she noted, sources such as Sainapat venerated him as the protector of the entire world. The lecture received heartening responses from the audience.
The book exhibition featured a rich collection of works on the life and teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, providing students and faculty with an opportunity to engage with manuscripts, literary texts, and contemporary publications that shed light on the Guru’s contributions to humanity and his timeless message of peace, tolerance, and spiritual steadfastness.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma lauded the efforts of the organising departments for honouring the legacy of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji through scholarly engagement and literary exploration. She remarked that such initiatives inspire the younger generation to imbibe the values of courage, compassion, and universal brotherhood that the Guru stood for.
