MCM hosts workshop on Social Entrepreneurship
11/14/2025 10:58:28 PM
CHANDIGARH, Nov 14: The Department of Sociology at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, Panjab University, and under the aegis of the college's NSS Units, organised an insightful workshop on Social Entrepreneurship. The session aimed to inspire students to conceptualise innovative ventures addressing pressing environmental and societal challenges. The workshop featured distinguished resource persons, Dr. Vinod Kumar, Chairperson, Department of Sociology, Panjab University, and Ar. Pallav Mukherjee, Social Enthusiast.
In his address, Dr. Vinod Kumar explained the foundational meaning and scope of social entrepreneurship, emphasising that a keen sense of observation is crucial for identifying social problems that can evolve into viable entrepreneurial opportunities. He highlighted the emerging practice of Nanak Kheti as an example of innovative, sustainable approaches to social upliftment. Using relatable illustrations, Dr. Vinod elaborated on the step-by-step process of social entrepreneurship: observing real-world issues, maintaining a journal, identifying areas of interest, devising solutions, and taking small, systematic actions to develop them into structured ventures. Encouraging students to embrace experimentation and learning, he urged them to "start young and fail", reinforcing that failure is an integral part of the entrepreneurial journey. Ar. Pallav Mukherjee's discourse focused on practical and inspiring real-world wisdom. The workshop enriched students' understanding of ideation, execution, funding avenues, and sustainable business models, equipping them with the confidence to think critically and responsibly about social change through entrepreneurship.
Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma emphasised the pivotal role of such focused workshops in shaping modern students. She encouraged participants to imbibe the values of innovation, determination, and social responsibility, noting that such events are crucial in fostering awareness about the scope of social entrepreneurship and nation-building among the youth.
