Nationwide protest against 25 percent increase in kilometer rates for running staff
11/18/2025 10:13:38 PM
NEW DELHI, Nov 18: As a result of increasing the Dearness Allowance by more than 50 percent, the kilometer allowance of the running staff has not yet been increased by 25 percent from 01.01.2024 by the government and the administration, there is a lot of anger among the running staff, as a result of which the working committee of All India Railway Men's Federation (AIRF) was recently held in Kolkata on 6-7 November 2025., it was unanimously decided in the meeting that a strong movement should be launched against this delay by organizing demonstrations at all loco lobbies across the country on 17 November 2025.
In implementation of the above decision, on the call of AIRF, all the affiliated unions of AIRF carried out a huge protest and demonstration on 17th November 2025 at the loco lobbies of the entire Indian Railways, demanding immediate increase in the kilometer rates of running employees by 25 percent and expressed their anger.
AIRF General Secretary Shiva Gopal Mishra said that as per the orders of the Government of India, since dearness allowance was more than 50 percent, all the employees got an increase of 25 percent in their allowances, but the irony is that, those who travel while sleeping on duty, their TA has increased by 25 percent but those who drive on duty like Loco Pilots, Assistant Loco Pilots, Train Managers and others, they have not been given the benefit of 25 percent. We have raised this question in front of everyone from the Railway Ministry, Finance Ministry and Personnel Ministry and sought their intervention. It is sad that, despite so much effort, our running staff employees are deprived of 25 percent benefit.
Our demand is from the government that the allowances of the running employees should be increased by 25 percent as soon as possible, otherwise this protest will increase further and no one will be able to stop its intensity.
In Delhi, this demonstration was organized under the leadership of airf affilates. NRMU in the form of a huge demonstration at Delhi Main, Nizamuddin, Sarai Rohila, Jakhal, Meerut, New Delhi station and Ghaziabad stations. All the speakers expressed hope that the Government and Railway Administration will soon take a decision on this question in favor of the running staff and increase their kilometerage rates by 25 percent.
Keeping in mind the perspective of this movement, today the General Secretary Shiva Gopal Mishra raised this issue in Railway Board before the Multidisciplinary Committee, which has been formed to solve the problems of the running employees.
