MALIGAON, Nov 18: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) continues to strengthen its commitment towards renewable energy by steadily expanding solar capacity across the zone. As on 31st October 2025, NFR has installed a cumulative total of 11.95 MWp rooftop solar capacities since year 2011, at important stations, offices, workshops and service buildings of its divisions, i.e. Katihar, Alipurduar, Rangiya, Lumding, Tinsukia. Also, these installations were carried out at NFR Headquarter at Maligaon and its workshops. This initiative forms a key part of Indian Railways' mission towards enhancing green energy adoption and reduce reliance on conventional power sources. During the current financial year till 31st October 2025, NFR achieves a total of 2.80 MWp solar capacities installed at several important locations of its zone. Hence, it attained an average generation capacity of approximately 8.98 lakh units of solar energy per month, resulting in estimated average savings of Rs. 66 lakhs monthly. Further, to enhance the solar power generation capacity to 38 MWp, works are in progress at all the five divisions of NFR including its Headquarters in Maligaon & its workshops. In addition, works are under finalization for another 1.73 MWp capacity of solar plants in NFR headquarters. NFR remains committed to further expanding its renewable energy footprint with upcoming projects under both CAPEX and RESCO models. These efforts are expected to significantly enhance clean energy utilisation, reduce carbon emissions and achieve substantial cost savings. With focused planning and continuous monitoring of plant performance, NFR is advancing steadily toward building an energy-efficient, environmentally sustainable railway network in the North-eastern region. |
