Thannamandi, Nov 19: Government Degree College Thannamandi, successfully concluded its 15-day Summer Internship Programme in food preservation and processing with a Certificate Distribution Ceremony felicitated by Department of Horticulture to the summer Interns of GDC Thannamandi. Director, Horticulture Jammu Gul Sayed along with Principal of College Prof (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed and other Horticulture Officers awarded certificates to the 70 interns, recognizing their discipline, enthusiasm, and active participation. The event celebrated the enthusiastic participation of student interns from the department of Zoology, Botany, Geography, Islamic Studies, English, Arabic and Political Science and marked a significant milestone in the college’s ongoing commitment to experiential learning and skill development in the field of horticulture. The programme commenced with a warm welcome and a detailed report presented by Dr. Gulshan Rashid, Coordinator of the Summer Internship 2025. The Principal of GDC Thannamandi, Dr. Farooq Ahmad, delivered an inspiring address, emphasizing the transformative role of internships in bridging academic knowledge with practical application. He reaffirmed the college’s vision of fostering holistic student development through such collaborative initiatives. Dr Farooq said that such events promote youth skill development and community engagement, as is reflected in Mission Yuva 4.0. The event was further enriched by the presence of Syed Gul, Director of Horticulture, Jammu, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his keynote address, he highlighted the importance of youth engagement in regional horticultural advancement. Sushil Angurana, Chief Horticulture Officer, Rajouri, also addressed the gathering, offering valuable insights into the evolving horticultural landscape and the pivotal role of student involvement. Other distinguished guests included Sunil Gupta, Assistant Director of Horticulture, Jammu, Amit Saraf, Manager-cum-Chemist, Rajouri, Shafqat Khan and Arshid Jameel, District Horticulture Officers Rajouri and Instructor - Shafqat Hussian. Their presence and thoughtful contributions added immense value to the programme, reinforcing the spirit of collaboration between academia and government institutions. The event was efficiently coordinated by Prof. Rumy Dar and Prof. Supriya Gupta, whose seamless execution ensured the smooth conduct of the programme. Dr. Mohd Ashaq conducted the proceedings with clarity and professionalism. The formal Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Nazar ul Islam, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to all dignitaries, guests, faculty members, staff, and students for their invaluable contributions in making the programme a resounding success. The event also saw the presence of esteemed faculty members including Dr Nazakat Hussain, Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Dr Goher Iqbal Qazi, Dr Shiraz Ahmad, Prof. Fatima Parveen, Dr. Junaid Ahmad, Dr. Ather Aziz raina, Prof. Rizwana Kousar, Prof. Nagina Kouser, Prof. Shazia Poswal, Prof. Mohd Ashrif, and Prof. Yasmine Kouser.
