| Omar says young leadership drove UPA to success | | | Early Times report Srinagar: Attributing the success of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in the parliamentary elections to its policies and the projection of young leadership, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that he will discuss the Kashmir issue soon after the formation of government at the Centre.
“There is a lot that needs to be done vis-à-vis Kashmir. As the new government assumes office, we would sit with them and see how to make progress on the Kashmir issue,” Junior Abdullah said, while talking to journalists at his Gupkar residence on Saturday afternoon.
“We had a strong youth focus as Rahul Gandhi campaigned for the candidates. The policies of UPA and the projection of young leadership finally paid off,” he added.
Chief Minister said that the way trends were going across the country it was certain that there will be one government - Congress-led UPA government. He asserted that the UPA will form the next government and will remain in power for five years.
“I was very keen to see Dr Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister for another term. He has promised to turn Jammu and Kashmir into a model state,” he said.
“I want nothing in return for our support to the UPA government. I have commitment to Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh who tried to pull out Jammu and Kashmir from trouble,” he added.
Reports reaching said that the Junior Abdullah said the new government has to address the internal and external point of view vis-à-vis Kashmir issue. He said that the stalled Indo-Pak talks need to be resumed so that a solution to the Kashmir issue is arrived at.
He also said that his party has to decide whether to join the government or not.
“The party has to decide if we have to be in the government or not, and at what level we have to join,” Omar Abdullah said.
