Separatist Sajjad Lone ‘separated; in poll battle

Srinagar, May 16: Separatist turned mainstream politician, Sajjad Lone must be repenting his decision to join the mainstream bandwagon after he scored his maiden loss in the political arena. Sajjad Lone who claimed to take the voice of ordinary Kashmiris to the Indian Parliament failed to get his own voice heard among the masses.

‘Rationalist’ Sajjad who took the plunge into mainstream politics, much to the annoyance of separatist camp, failed to leave any impact among the masses though he used all his ‘weapons’ to fire across his point of view.

Even people across his home constituency believed that the joy of his joining the mainstream camp will prove to be short lived.

“Sajjad was never a favourite in his home constituency not to talk of rest of the areas,” Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Handwara told Press Bureau of India.

“Sajjad was representing the separatist sentiment in the valley and his decision of joining the mainstream camp made it amply clear that people like him have no regard for the sacrifices people of Kashmir have made to achieve their goal of freedom,” Mushtaq added.

Interestingly, Sajjad Lone was no political novice. The fact that his sister Shabnam Gani Lone, who claimed to represent the true legacy of her father, Abdul Gani Lone, lost the recently contested assembly elections from Kupwara. Shabnam contested as an independent but failed to garner support to manage a win in Kupwara assembly segment.

“Sajjad Lone acted on the behest of Indian agencies which made him to believe that the people of Kashmir no longer believe the separatist’s word,” Ghulam Mohammad, a resident of Drugmulla told Press Bureau of India.

According to Ghulam Mohammad, Sajjad should have devoted some time to educate the people before taking any decision of joining the mainstream camp.

“People of the state, especially the Valley know that New Delhi was never sincere with the people of Kashmir, so how was it that the people at Delhi changed their mind over night and impressed Sajjad to come forward and take a decision that could have far greater repercussions,” Ghulam Mohammad added.
