Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 22: Calling the four new 'Labour Codes' introduced by the Modi government a historic step, BJP spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan, said that these codes are a major move towards empowering India's working class and ensuring dignity, security and justice for every worker. He said that these reforms are among the biggest changes in India's labour framework since independence and reflect the Modi government's commitment to improving the lives of workers across various sectors. Balbir Ram Rattan said that the Wages Code, Industrial Relations Code, Social Security Code, and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code together consolidate 29 existing labour laws into a modern and simplified system that workers can easily understand and industries can comply with more easily. "This is not just an administrative reform, but a strong message that the interests of the working class remain at the centre of national policymaking," he said. Balbir said that for the first time, gig and platform workers, such as delivery personnel, drivers, and other app-based service provider have been formally recognised and brought under the scope of social security benefits. This is a transformative step that acknowledges India's evolving workforce. No worker should be left behind, and these codes ultimately make this a reality, he added. Emphasising worker welfare, Balbir said that equal wage policies, simplified compliance systems, legally stronger provisions for timely wage payments, better working conditions, and expanded safety measures will significantly improve the lives of millions of workers. According to him, mandatory health, safety, and welfare standards in all establishments will provide unprecedented protection to workers across industries, from factories to construction sites. He further said that this new framework will help reduce exploitation by bringing a larger number of workers in the unorganised sector under legal protection. For decades, informal workers have struggled without clarity and access to essential safety measures. The Modi government has addressed this gap through decisive and visionary reforms. |
