BJP blames itself for the destruction
5/17/2009 12:54:51 AM

Jammu, May 16: From nadir to zenith and then again to nadir, as BJP’s de nova takes another low in Jammu, the party has none to blame than itself.
The icon of Amarnath land row, Leela Karan Sharma loosing election to Congress by a whopping margin of over one lakh votes tells the whole story. But Leela Karan has further simplified it. After election results were out, he told Early Times very candidly that his party did not work for him.
Talking to early times Leel Karan Sharma said that it was due to the infighting among the BJP leaders which led to this defeat. He further added that the has not got the support he had expected from the people and the party members.
BJP has experienced wanton destruction despite huge speculations made by political stalwarts after witnessing abrupt rise in the number of seats in Assembly elections held a couple of months prior to parliamentary elections. Eleven from only one and mostly in position second for all the losing seats was the reason behind huge expectations according to political ethics.
The thunder of Bham Bham Bholay during last year Amarnath land row generated a hero called Leela Karan Sharma and of course eleven Assembly seats for the BJP. It is worth thinking instead of widening the constituency BJP is shrinking day by day as prior 2001 both the parliamentary seats of Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda used to be the stronghold constituencies of the party. But what went wrong is expiry of Ved Vaishno Dutt in the year 2001 and leadership of the party could find suitable replacement thus resulting in defeat at Jammu parliamentary constituency but retained Udhampur only. In 2004 election party lost both seats to Congress candidates and repeated the same in 2009 elections.
A billion dollar question arises that what should are the reasons that party is loosing its ground. Party’s agenda is same, supporters are the same what remains is performance of deliverance which does not seems too good and remains a big factor of defeat of the party. Switching over the loyalty to BJP by Bham Bham Bholay hero Leela Karan Sharma dishearten the masses who fought religious agitation under the leadership of Sharma.
Authenticating the infighting in party fold BJP contestant Leela Karan Sharma informed that overwhelming support of the people was neutralized due to infighting among the leaders for mere vested gains. President BJP Ashok Khajuria while talking to Early Times said that the results are out come of the people’s verdict and BJP respects the verdict.
“Amarnath land row was a struggle with which religious sentiments of the people were attached and the flooding of masses came into existence when the land issue was associated with sixty years discrimination with people of Jammu, but joining BJP hurt people and voted against Leela Karan Sharma” said an political expert and added that if Sharma would have contested on independently he might have won the seat.
It not BJP alone but Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Valley have also experienced same bitter taste, as both BJP and PDP were assumed as main players in igniting the religious sentiments of the people at Jammu as well as in Kashmir which resulted in blood shed and two months long agitation by the masses across the state. PDP which gained seven seats in Assembly elections held in 2008 in comparison 2004 Assembly elections is sailing in the same boat as did BJP. Conclusively, people not in the state only but across the country have rejected the divisive politics and have voted for peace, progress, development social security.
