MAM College, GCW Gandhi Nagar clinch Titles at Cluster University Basketball Tournament

Jammu, Nov 24: The Inter-College Basketball Tournament, organized by the Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ), concluded with high spirits at Govt. MAM College, Jammu.
The tournament witnessed intense competition in both the Men's and Women's sections, culminating in victories for the host team, MAM College, in the Men's category, and GCW Gandhi Nagar in the Women's category.
The event was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Monika Sharma (Dean, Faculty of Arts) as the Chief Guest. Prof. (Dr.) Archana Koul (Principal, MAM College) attended as the Guest of Honour, while Dr. Vinod Bakshi was present as the Special Guest.
In the preliminary round, GGM Science College edged out Govt. SPMR College of Commerce in a thrilling contest, winning by a close margin of 22-20.
The final match saw a dominant performance by the host team. MAM College defeated GGM Science College with a decisive score of 30-13 to lift the trophy.
The women's tournament began with a one-sided affair where GCW Gandhi Nagar swept past GGM Science College with a score of 20-0. In the second match, MAM College secured a hard-fought victory against Govt. SPMR College of Commerce, winning 20-17.
In the final showdown, GCW Gandhi Nagar displayed superior skill to defeat MAM College 16-6, claiming the championship title.
Two players were recognized for their exceptional performances throughout the tournament:
Best Player (Men): Mr. Vikrant Sharma (Govt. MAM College)
Best Player (Women): Ms. Bharti Singh (GCW Gandhi Nagar)
Speaking on the occasion, Special Guest Dr. Vinod Bakshi addressed the gathering and lauded the continuous encouragement provided by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) K.S. Chandrasekar, and Dr. D.S. Manhas (Dean Student Welfare, CLUJ) towards promoting sports and co-curricular activities.
Dr. Bakshi specifically appreciated the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor’s recent decision to implement a New Sports Policy. He highlighted that this policy offers significant benefits to meritorious and outstanding students, including remittance of admission fees and enhanced remunerations, aiming to further boost the sporting culture within the university.
Among those present on the occasion included Mr. Tarsem Lal (Convener Sports, Govt. MAM College), Ms. Neenu Sahni (Physical Director Govt. MAM College), Mr. Ravi Kumar (Physical Director, Govt. SPMR College of Commerce), Prof. Imran, Prof. Raj Kumar (Govt. MAM College) and Ms. Neelam Chalotra (Asstt. PTI Govt. MAM College).
The matches were officiated by Hrithik Khullar, Amanjot Singh, Mayank Bali and Jaskirat Singh.
