| SKUAST Jammu Libraries Celebrates Constitution Day with Unveiling of Coloured Replica of Original Constitution of India | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 26: Continuing its rich tradition of observing Samvidhan Diwas with meaningful programmes since the nationwide declaration of Constitution Day in 2015, the Central Library, Chatha & Faculty Library, R S Pura of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) celebrated the occasion today with renewed vigour and reverence. Earlier celebrations in 2024 had featured Preamble readings, quizzes and special exhibitions, laying a strong foundation for constitutional awareness on campus. This year's highlight was the formal unveiling of a high-quality, full-colour authenticated replica of the original Constitution of India - complete with the historic calligraphy, signatures and 22 exquisite illustrations. This prized addition to the University Library's rare documents Reference section will serve as an inspirational and educational resource for generations of students, researchers and faculty. Prof. R.K. Samnotra, University Librarian, delivered a detailed address tracing the historic journey of the Constitution - from the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly on 9 December 1946 under the presidentship of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the monumental leadership of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as Chairman of the Drafting Committee, to the valuable contributions of fifteen distinguished women members. He recalled that it was in 2015 that the Government of India officially declared 26 November as Samvidhan Diwas to honour this sacred document. Prof. Samnotra linked constitutional ideals with the university's mandate of fostering scientific temper and inclusive agricultural development. He highlighted the special significance of 2025 - marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the 150th year of Vande Mataram, and the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji - and echoed the Prime Minister's call to place Fundamental Duties (Article 51A) at the forefront as India marches towards Viksit Bharat @2047. |
